Online tour showcases campus green features

Did you know that The Meadows was constructed to preserve two natural wooded areas that date back 75 years? Or that kitchen oil used at The Connection is recycled and made into bio-fuel? 

These facts and more are outlined on a new online map that guides visitors through sustainable efforts, features and buildings on the Allendale Campus. Take the Green Tour at http://www.gvsu.edu/sustainability/digital-tour-310.htm

Norman Christopher, director of the Sustainable Community Development Initiative, said it’s important to showcase Grand Valley’s campus initiatives because more and more students are basing their college decision on an institution’s sustainable curriculum and efforts.

“We want this tour to help potential students, faculty, staff members and families gain a deeper understanding of our sustainable efforts on the Allendale Campus,” he said. “It will make them aware of the sustainable lifestyle new students and community members will experience at Grand Valley.” 

The creation of the map was a collective effort that included support from staff members in the Sustainable Community Development Initiative, Institutional Marketing, Facilities Services and Facilities Planning. 

New features will be added as the Allendale Campus grows. A Pew Grand Rapids Campus map is underway.
