Student-led groups Act on Racism and ReACT! are joining forces with Intersections to host a collaborative performance April 15 about sexuality, race, class and gender.

“Act Up: Dialogues About Oppression and Resistance” will include scenes derived from real-life experiences of Grand Valley students. Ten scenes will be performed by 30 students starting at 5 p.m. in room 2204 of the Kirkhof Center.

“We are really excited for this new program that highlights the intersections of oppression that exist in our society,” said Brittany Dernberger, assistant director of the Women’s Center. “We hope the audience leaves challenged by the content and inspired to ‘act up’ in order to create change.”

Dernberger said the Women’s Center has organized “Vagina Monologues” and “That Takes Ovaries!: Bold Women, Brazen Acts” productions for more than 12 years, and is excited for this new production.

The event is approved for LIB 100 and 201 classes.

Intersections is a collaborative partnership among Grand Valley’s Office of Multicultural Affairs, Women’s Center and LGBT Resource Center. Intersections programs provide opportunities for the campus community to look at the world through multiple dimensions including race, gender, sexual orientation, and class status among others.
