The Secretary of State’s Mobile Office Unit will visit Grand Valley on Wednesday, September 17, to provide an opportunity for students, faculty, staff members and community members to register for the upcoming general election.

The voter registration unit will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. near Zumberge and Au Sable halls on the Allendale Campus. The unit will be located on the first floor of the Kirkhof Center if there’s rain. The last day to register to vote for the November 4 election is October 6.

Andrew Plague, president of Student Senate, said it’s important for students to register and vote. “This November, we have the opportunity to elect representatives to offices in our government, including Governor and U.S. Senators,” he said. “Who we elect can determine many things, including the state of the job market when we graduate.”

The mobile office will offer nearly all of the services available at local branch offices, including driver’s license renewal and organ donor registry.

The visit is part of the Michigan Secretary of State Ruth Johnson’s 2014 ExpressSOS Voter Registration Drive, which includes visits to more than 20 universities, colleges and community centers to raise awareness and educate voters. It is sponsored by Grand Valley’s Student Senate and Office of Student Life.
