More than 30 twirlers-in-training showcased their talent in front of hundreds of people during a recent Grand Valley men’s basketball game halftime show, all to support a charitable cause.

On Saturday, February 7, Moriah Muscaro, Grand Valley’s current third-generation baton twirler, held her third annual GVSU Twirler for a Day event. The workshop gives young girls ages 3-16 an opportunity to visit the Allendale Campus and learn a simple routine. The girls performed during the Grand Valley vs. Michigan Tech men’s basketball game, with all proceeds benefitting Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

“I think this is an important event because it gives girls of the community a chance not only to perform at a collegiate athletic event for hundreds of people, but also a chance to raise money for a worthy cause,” Muscaro said. “I’m hopeful the girls walk away from here having experienced the thrill of performing and the awareness of doing something for those less fortunate.”

A portion of the girls’ performance can be viewed below:

Muscaro is a senior biomedical sciences major who will be graduating in April. She will give her final performance during the February 21 men’s and women’s basketball games. Muscaro will travel to Italy in April to represent Grand Valley at the World Baton Twirling Championships.
