The Grand Valley Board of Trustees approved the reauthorization of six public school academies at their meeting April 24.

The schools that will be reauthorized include Crossroads Charter Academy (Big Rapids); Endeavor Charter Academy (Springfield); Paragon Charter Academy (Jackson); Reach Charter Academy (Roseville); Warrendale Charter Academy (Detroit); and West Michigan Academy of Arts and Academics (Spring Lake).

Tim Wood, special assistant to the president for charter schools at Grand Valley, also informed the board that Grand Valley’s Charter Schools Office has been recommended for accreditation by AdvancED, an international education accrediting body. The recommendation was based on an above-average assessment of the university’s charter schools office performance and student outcomes.

Board members were also shown a video featuring several Grand Valley student athletes who work with students at Grand Valley-authorized charter schools to improve reading skills through the EBLI (Evidence Based Literacy Instruction) program.
