Four alumnae who were involved in Laker athletics or club sports will be honored at an event that celebrates the accomplishments of all women athletes.

The honorees are Lorin Cartwright, ’79; Susan Korzinek, ’83; Jill Meerman, ’88; and Anna Tollefson, ’09.

They will highlight the event, Celebrating Women in Sport and Physical Activity, set for Saturday, February 21, at the Alumni House. The event will begin at 4 p.m., preceding the women’s basketball game against Hillsdale. Tickets are $25 and includes food, beverages and a $15 donation to an endowment fund that benefits students.
Information about each honoree is below.

• Cartwright was the first woman to graduate from Grand Valley with a degree in athletic training and physical education.
• Korzinek is director of Information Technology at Grand Valley and played softball and basketball for the Lakers.
• Meerman teaches health and physical education at Decatur (Ind.) Middle School and played basketball at Grand Valley and had worked for USA Basketball.
• Tollefson coaches the Laker club volleyball teams; last year she was named National Collegiate Volleyball Federation coach of the year.

Keri Becker, associate athletic director, said the current honorees are great examples of how participating on a team or being involved in physical education helps shape a person’s leadership skills.

Dana Munk, associate professor of movement science, said the honorees also exemplify the values of Joan Boand and Patti Rowe, who the endowment fund honors for their pioneering contributions on campus.
