The rain and cold weather didn’t hamper four faculty and staff members who completed the Boston Marathon April 20.

Amy Bross, assistant director of communications for University Development, said it rained the entire time runners were on the course but she was pleased with her time of 3:29.34.

“It was amazing to see the crowds lining up on every street throughout the course,” she said. “There wasn’t a single open space where people were not cheering you on. Rain or shine, the spectators are absolutely incredible in Boston.”

Lindsey DesArmo, health and wellness specialist, was not far behind Bross; she finished in 3:34.37. DesArmo said her husband ran as well, so many family members came out to support them.

“We had family on the course at miles 3.5 and 14 and every time I crossed a chip timer I knew people would get a text back home,” DesArmo said. “It was like a speed boost stepping over those markers!”

Scott Whisler, project manager for Facilities Planning, ran in his second Boston Marathon. He is continuing his goal of completing a marathon in each state. Thus far, Whisler has completed 33 marathons, including four ultra-marathons, in 21 states.

Randy Winchester, associate professor of chemistry, finished in 3:43.12 and said he was ecstatic with that time. Next for him is the Fifth Third River Bank Run 5K; Winchester will be running with his 85-year-old father.
