The Oliver Wilson Freshman Academy Program presented its outstanding faculty award to Joel Wendland, assistant professor of liberal studies.

The award was presented during a ceremony April 14 at the Alumni House.

The student-nominated award is presented to a faculty member who is committed to helping Freshman Academy students succeed. Sulari White, director of the program, said Wendland teaches a LIB 100 course for Freshman Academy students only, and facilitates and an extra hour of structured learning assistance, allowing students to get additional assistance.

Students said they enjoyed Wendland’s course and said he “allows students to have a voice and contribute ideas to the class environment.” They called him challenging and one nominator added that “he pushed me to be a better student.”
