In an effort to foster a greater public relations network of college students in Michigan, Grand Valley’s Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) chapter hosted a statewide leadership event June 13.

The “Unity in the Mitten” event welcomed all Michigan PRSSA members that hold executive positions in their respective chapters to the Pew Grand Rapids Campus for an afternoon of networking and team building exercises.

Representatives from Grand Valley, Michigan State University, Ferris State University, Central Michigan University, Wayne State University, University of Michigan-Dearborn and Eastern Michigan University were all present for the event.

Tyler Lehner, GVSU PRSSA president, said he values opportunities to build relationships while still in school, which can lead to stronger professional networks in the future.

“We have all of these awesome public relations student networks in Michigan and so far, we haven’t taken advantage of that,” Lehner said. “We are going to be working with these other students as we all enter the industry after graduation and, in public relations especially, it’s important to have a wide network of peers.”

During the event, each university’s PRSSA team presented their chapter’s structure, accomplishments from the past year and unique aspects of their organizations.
