A Grand Valley State University student stationed in the Middle East received a special phone call from President Thomas J. Haas, Monday, August 3.
Nikki Anderson, a biomedical sciences major and U.S. Air Force airman first class, is spending the summer in between her freshman and sophomore years on deployment in the Middle East. She serves as a crew chief on a Boeing KC-135 (an aerial refueling aircraft).
Haas, a retired captain in the U.S. Coast Guard, connected with Anderson through FaceTime, a video-calling app. During the conversation, he thanked Anderson for representing the best of Grand Valley.
Anderson will return to Michigan in late August, in time to start classes.
