Biomedical engineer and writer David Edwards gave two presentations during a visit to Grand Valley October 15 about how entrepreneurism affects classroom learning.

Edwards, a Grand Rapids native, holds an endowed professorship at Harvard University and is the founder of Le Laboratoire, in Paris, where artists and scientists perform collaborative experiments.

His campus presentations in the DeVos Center included an introduction to the "oPhone," an innovation that Edwards co-developed that allows people to take photos with a smartphone and attach scents to the images. The scent-tagged photos can then be played on “oPhones” that transmit the scent, in the same way a speaker transmits sound.

Edwards was interviewed in September about the invention in September on "CBS Sunday Morning," watch the segment here.

His visit was hosted by the Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies and the Padnos College of Engineering and Computing.
