Beverly Grant, interim executive director of the Johnson Center for Philanthropy, has been appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder to the Michigan Community Service Commission.

The commission serves the state by fostering a culture of service by providing vision and resources to strengthen communities through volunteerism. It also develops a three-year comprehensive community and national service plan that is updated annually.

“I am confident Beverly will do great work to help inspire people to further embrace volunteerism in our state. A strong sense of community service is what makes Michigan, Michigan,” Snyder said.

Grant will serve a three-year term.

Grant serves as the chief operational leader at the Johnson Center, supporting the executive director in key leadership projects. She also serves as key strategist in the center’s overall daily maintenance and operations.

She earned a bachelor’s and master’s in social work from Grambling State University and Atlanta University, respectively.
