Kaufman Interfaith Institute sponsoring hospice care seminar

To better understand interfaith needs in end-of-life care, Grand Valley State University’s Kaufman Interfaith Institute, in conjunction with local hospice providers, will host a special panel event. “Bridging the Gap: Understanding the Needs of Our Interfaith Community" will take place November 19 in Loosemore Auditorium.

Two sessions will be offered for those interested in attending. The morning session will take place from 9-11 a.m., and the afternoon session will be held from 3-5 p.m. This free event is open to all medical professionals, students, funeral home directors and staff, clergy and other groups seeking to understand exemplary spiritual and physical end-of-life care.

“This is an essential conversation to have as our community continues to diversify,” said Katie Gordon, Kaufman Interfaith Institute program manager. “More hospices are caring for people from various religious, spiritual and secular traditions. We hope this is the start of a collaborative relationship between the interfaith community and health community moving forward in order to achieve true understanding across our community.”

Participating hospice organizations include: Faith Hospice, Hospice of Michigan, Emmanuel Hospice, Great Lakes Caring Hospice, Heartland Hospice, Hospice of Holland, Spectrum Hospice, Grace Hospice and Gentiva Hospice.

Registration is required for this event. For more information, visit www.gvsu.edu/interfaith, or call the Kaufman Interfaith Institute at (616) 331-5702.
