Kirkhof College of Nursing recognizes CNL graduates
The role of a clinical nurse leader is relatively new to health
care, but a dedicated social media day is helping create awareness
while recognizing health care professionals in that role.
The Commission on Nurse Certification has dedicated March 19 as
Certified Clinical Nurse Leader Day. The commission is encouraging
professionals to use social media and tweet about their roles using
the hashtag #CertCNLDay.
Rebecca Davis, professor of nursing at the Kirkhof College of
Nursing, said a clinical nurse leader helps ensure quality care by
coordinating care across settings, facilitating practice innovations
and monitoring and targeting quality improvement efforts.
“They see themselves as the keeper of the patient’s story, a
skilled nursing leader who can help ensure the best possible care,”
Davis said.
Graduates of a nursing master’s degree program accredited for
CNL education, like the Kirkhof College of Nursing, must take a CNL
certification exam.
The following KCON graduates are certified CNLs: (class of 2013)
Mariah Hockin, Terri Ruiter, Michelle Smith, Amanda VandenBerg and
Erin Wisniewski; (class of 2014) Erin Micale, Julie Polanic and Diane Ullery.
