Brian Hatzel, associate professor of movement science, has been
named the Michigan Athletic Trainers Society 2015 Distinguished
Athletic Trainer of the Year. The honor recognizes role models in
athletic training who exhibit outstanding contributions to the profession.
“As athletic trainers and Grand Valley faculty members, we are
always focused on doing what’s right for our patients and students.
I’ve dedicated myself to working hard for both,” Hatzel said. “I’m
thankful for the support and time that Grand Valley and our athletic
training program have afforded me to allow me to contribute to the
profession and our students in ways that are both long-lasting and meaningful.”
Hatzel has been a faculty member at Grand Valley since 2002. He
received a bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport sciences, and a
doctorate in sports medicine and athletic training from the University
of Florida. Hatzel received a master’s degree in biomechanics from
Ball State University.
He will receive the award during the annual MATS Clinical
Symposium June 5 in Ypsilanti.
