Students raise more than $3,000 for charity

Fourteen marketing students were given the challenge of raising $2,000 in a week for the charity of their choice. The challenge was part of an assignment for a marketing strategy course.

The students not only met the challenge, but exceeded it by raising $3,382 in five days for Kids' Food Basket in Grand Rapids.

The students participating included Carolina Zuniga, Anna Langworthy, Riley Waugh, Summer Klomp, Alec Sadowski, Amber Zaucha, Justin Focht, Hanna Windberg, Jacob Rickfelder, Kevin Muenzenmeyer, Kaitlyn Adair, Timothy Tarter, Samantha Mortellaro and Hannah Rosenberg.

The students were divided into two teams and raised the money separately by using several strategies including setting up a Go Fund Me page on social media, placing a collection bin outside of a baseball game and returning cans.

Tarah Bourke, Development and Communications coordinator for Kids' Food Basket, said every dollar raised equals one sack supper so enough money was raised to provide meals for 3,382 children.
