Based on comedies of the late 1600s, Loveless, an insatiable womanizer, returns home to England after squandering all of his money. After learning that his wife Amanda is dead, Loveless intends to spend her fortune. Unbeknownst to Loveless, Amanda is in fact alive and begins plotting revenge when she discovers his plans. With the help of Worthy, a mutual friend who is in love with Amanda, she pretends to be a lascivious mistress and tempts Loveless into her bed. While the two repair their broken marital bonds, Amanda breaks Worthy’s heart in the process.
