For the third consecutive year, students from Grand Valley’s Whale Radio and GVTV were honored for their work in campus broadcasting at the Michigan Association of Broadcaster’s Great Lakes Broadcasting Conference March 11 in Lansing.

Students from both stations entered work in various categories including news, sports and Internet content. In the College TV category, GVTV’s Mitch Visser, Lewis Stone, Bree Girard and Kelly Arrand were awarded for their public service announcement “Taking Care of Our University Libraries.”

Zak DeBeaussawert and A.J. Bedard from Whale Radio took home a first place award for sports play-by-play, while many other Whale Radio students were awarded honorable mentions for public service and promotional announcements, and digital media experiences.

“These awards are the sort of things that get students noticed when they go to look for jobs in media,” said Len O’Kelly, faculty advisor for GVTV and Whale Radio. “Our students have only taken part in these awards for three years and each year have shown that their work is as good or better than any other student work in the state of Michigan.”
