Window replacement project begins at Mary Idema Pew Library

A window replacement project has begun at the Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons in an effort to continue to save energy and costs.

James Moyer, associate vice president for Facilities Planning, said energy consumption continued to be evaluated and monitored after construction of the 154,000-square-foot building in 2013. Infra-red photographs revealed several instances where seals between the building and windows were not performing as expected.

The six-week project on the LEED-platinum building began April 28.

Since opening its doors in 2013, the library has seen more than two million visitors, according to an annual University Libraries usage report. The library includes many energy-efficient features, such as low-flow water fixtures, a rainwater-fed irrigation system and an under-floor air flow distribution system.
