Fall semester starts with ceremony

The fall semester will have a ceremonial kickoff on Friday, August 26, with an opening address from President Thomas J. Haas, followed by convocation and the dedication of a living center.

Haas will give an opening address to faculty and staff members at 10 a.m. in the Cook-DeWitt Center. A live-stream of the speech will be available to view from office computers via a link on Grand Valley's home page.

Nearly 6,000 first-year students will attend convocation, which will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Fieldhouse Arena. Haas, Provost Gayle R. Davis, Faculty Senate Chair Karen Gipson and Student Senate President Ella Fritzemeier are scheduled to give remarks. 

Faculty and staff members who plan to process at convocation should meet in the Fieldhouse dance studio about 20 minutes before the start of the ceremony.

The day's activities will culminate at 2 p.m. with the dedication of the Holton-Hooker Learning and Living Center on the Allendale Campus.
