From safe drinking water in Ghana, to oral health in rural India, to the mental health of veterans, students and faculty shared information about their health research and projects during the GVSU Global Health Showcase October 14.

Posters highlighting various projects that are impacting global health were on display outside of Loosemore Auditorium in the DeVos Center. Projects included a medical mission trip to Belize, the effects of childhood hunger and benefits of therapeutic play in Haiti.

Azizur Molla, associate professor of public health, organized the event as a way for faculty members and students to show how their projects and research help improve health for people worldwide.

The keynote speaker was Nkechy Ekere Ezeh, associate professor of education and director of the Early Childhood Education Program at Aquinas College. Ezeh was born in Nigeria, where her father was a tribal chief in their village. She has conducted professional development and parent education workshops all over the world, including Australia, China, Dubai, India, Japan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea and Thailand.

The event was sponsored by the College of Health Professions and the Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence with the theme, "Global Health Starts Locally."
