Staying home during the K-12 spring break?

The Meijer Campus in Holland will offer free classes for elementary, middle and high school students during the week of April 4-8.

The classes are free and open to the public; below is a list of classes.

• Tuesday, April 5, 10-11:30 a.m.: "Scrubs Camp" (pre-K through fifth grade) will explore hands-on activities with stethoscopes, glow-in-the-dark germs are more. Students from Grand Valley's Kirkhof College of Nursing will help kids explore health care.

• Wednesday, April 6, 3:30-4:40 p.m.: "Exploring Identity and Social Justice through Art" (middle and high school students) will hear from Claudia Rankine, author of "Citizen: An American Lyric," and explore personal and cultural identity and artistic expression. The book is Grand Valley's Community Reading Project selection.

• Thursday, April 7, 10-11:30 a.m.: "Every Rock Tells a Story!" (pre-K through fifth grade) participants will learn from members of Tulip City Gem and Mineral Club to investigate different types of rocks and follow clues to identify them. 

• Thursday, April 7, 10-11:30 a.m.: "Thinking About Your Future While Building on Your Past" (middle and high school students) Tim Marroquin, Holland High School and Grand Valley alumnus will engage participants in finding their own voice and learning about others through activities.
