Scholar-in-Residence brings varied background to position

Daniel Holt, associate professor of management at Mississippi State University, is serving as the 2016-17 Family Owned Business Institute Scholar-in-Residence in the Seidman College of Business. He is only the second person to be named to the position.

Holt has an eclectic background with degrees in electrical engineering, environmental management, human resource development, and management. He is a retired U.S. Air Force officer, having worked for 20 years as an engineer all over the world, from Myrtle Beach to Uzbekistan, earning a bronze star for his service in the Middle East.

He earned a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the University of Louisville, a master's degree in human resources management from Webster University, a master's degree in engineering and environmental management from the Air Force Institute of Technology and a doctorate in management from Auburn University. 

Holt is also a licensed panhandler, bartender, bulldozer operator and graphologist. He has shared his research on family firm management, innovative thinking and organizational analysis in more than 35 publications.
