Steinman receives community leadership award
Alan Steinman, director of Grand Valley's Annis Water Resources Institute in Muskegon, was given the Patricia B. Johnson Award for Community Leadership and Innovative Grantmaking by the Community Foundation for Muskegon on June 28.
Chris McGuigan, president of the Community Foundation for Muskegon, said the award recognizes visionary, dynamic and outstanding leadership by an individual or organization. This was the 17th time the award has been given.
McGuigan cited Steinman's leadership and influence on the field of freshwater research as a major asset for the Muskegon community, and said Steinman has given the city "a world-class voice and vision for our most valued and defining resource — our water."
"Over the course of his 15 years in Muskegon, we have acquired a deep understanding of the water that surrounds us, a confidence that we can improve it and a vision for its potential to build economic prosperity," McGuigan said.
