Students, faculty and staff members from the College of Education and College of Community and Public Service decorated thousands of brown paper bags for Kids' Food Basket of Grand Rapids.
Members from the two colleges held a friendly competition during the month of September and decorated a total of 6,214 bags. The bags will be used to provide a sack supper to area elementary students. Kids' Food Basket provides a dinner meal to more than 6,000 elementary students each weekday in the Grand Rapids area.
CCPS students, faculty and staff members collected 3,609 decorated bags, and those from COE collected 2,605 decorated bags. A "loose change" drive was also held to collect donations.
Volunteers from the College of Education will help assemble sack suppers at the Kids' Food Basket Grand Rapids location.
Kids' Food Basket serves nearly 7,500 kids in greater Grand Rapids, Muskegon and Holland. Sack suppers include a well-balanced meal that is distributed to students at school and then taken home.
