Two additional candidates will interview on campus for the position of provost and executive vice president for Academic and Student Affairs.

They are James E. Hinterlong, special assistant to the provost for Virginia Commonwealth University, and Ian R. Davison, dean of the College of Science and Engineering at Central Michigan University.

This follows the withdrawal of one of the candidates, and a request from President Thomas J. Haas to provide a full complement of candidates to the campus community.

• Hinterlong will give a public presentation followed by a Q&A session from 2-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 31, in the Kirkhof Center, Pere Marquette Room (room 2204); simulcast locations will be in the DeVos Center, room 107D, and Cook-DeVos Center for Health Sciences, room 115.

He will be available on Wednesday, February 1, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. for an open meeting at the DeVos Center, Regency Room.

Hinterlong earned a master's degree and doctorate in social work from Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri; and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

Davison has worked at CMU since 2008 and served one year as dean of the College of Science and Engineering, then was appointed to that position again in 2011. He also served as interim vice president for research and dean of Graduate Studies from 2014-2015, and interim vice provost for research from 2009-2011.

Davison earned a doctorate in biological studies from the University of Dundee in Scotland and a bachelor's degree in biological studies from the University of London.

Two other candidates, Denise Cobb and Stephen L. Esquith, interviewed for the position earlier this month and remain under consideration; a third candidate, Jann Joseph, withdrew her candidacy.
