Applications sought for next civil discourse professor

Applications are being accepted for the next professor of civil discourse, housed in the Brooks College of Interdisciplinary Studies.

The Padnos/Sarosik Endowed Professorship of Civil Discourse is a two-year term. The professor is expected to develop a new three-credit community engaged course for the fall 2018 and 2019 semesters and develop a companion public symposium.

Jack Mangala, professor of area and global studies and political science, is the current civil discourse professor; Lisa Perhamus, associate professor of education, was the first in 2014.

Mangala taught a course, "Immigration: Think Global, Act Local," which centered on global migration and the challenges and opportunities that refugees and immigrants bring to a community. 

“The professorship has provided me with a tremendous professional development opportunity to engage with the community on an issue I deeply care about and build lasting relationships," he said.

Materials include a current resume, references, letter of application that outlines the vision for the course and symposium, and letters of support from the applicant's unit head and dean.
