Joel Stillerman, professor of sociology, was interviewed by the New York Times for a story about the burgeoning trend of minimalist home decoration and tiny houses.

Gleaves Whitney and the Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies were mentioned in a Grand Rapids Legal News article about the second Progressive-Conservative Summit held as part of the center's Common Grounds initiative.

Sketches

Bill Hosterman, associate professor of art and design, was named an artist-in-residence at Crooked Tree Arts Center in Good Hart. Hosterman will be working at the center through June 9, leading various workshops and demonstrations.

Dan Balfour, professor of public, nonprofit, and health administration, was appointed to a three-year term on the board of directors of Heartside Ministries.

Chelsea Brehm, part-time faculty of movement science, gave a presentation, "Rookies & Vets: Advice for Interns and Supervisors," at the Females in Athletic Business Conference at Michigan State University.

Erica Millspaugh, liaison librarian, gave a presentation, "Wicked, Wearied, and Wild: The Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education and the Wicked Problem of Library Instruction," at the Association of College and Research Libraries conference.

Melanie Shell-Weiss, associate professor and chair of liberal studies, wrote an article, "Gi-gikinomaage-min (We are all teachers): Using History to Give Voice to Native American Communities," published in AlterNative: An International Journal of Indigenous Peoples.

John Kilbourne, professor of movement science, served as a consultant for a documentary film, "The Motivation Factor," which premiered at the Life Fest Film Festival in Hollywood, California.

Therapeutic recreation faculty members Dawn DeVries and Susan Sunden gave a presentation, "Bibliotherapy and Children who have a Sibling with a Disability," at the Michigan Therapeutic Recreation Association.

Ruth Stevens, associate professor of criminal justice, wrote an article, "Assistant U.S. Attorney Ella Mae Backus: ‘A Most Important Figure in the Legal Profession in the Western District of Michigan,'" published in the journal Michigan Historical Review.
