Friends and family members joined nearly 30 graduates to celebrate their achievements at the Latino/a Graduation Ceremony April 28 at the Kirkhof Center.

David Stark, professor of history and coordinator of Latin American Studies, said it was appropriate to include friends and family.

"You are a community of workers, a Laker Familia," Stark said. "A community has a certain responsibility. Don't forget the responsibility you carry to this community and to the global community."

The reception was one of several sponsored by the Division of Inclusion and Equity and faculty/staff affinity groups to celebrate the achievements of diverse graduates.

Each Latino/a student received a certificate and stole to wear at commencement. Salvador Lopez, associate director of Admissions, said the stole represents cultural authenticity and pride.
