Mobile registration unit to visit campus on National Voter Registration Day
Students, faculty and staff members can register to vote at the Secretary of State's Mobile Unit when it visits campus September 26 on National Voter Registration Day.
The unit will be set up from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Cook Carillon Tower on the Allendale Campus. Students can also register to vote at the Community Service Learning Center in the Kirkhof Center and at Democracy 101 sessions.
Melissa Baker-Boosamra, associate director for Student Life, said the voter registration event is part of an effort to provide the campus community with broader opportunities to learn about being engaged citizens.
Democracy 101 is a new, bi-weekly series that focuses on civic learning. The first session, Back Yard Civics 101, takes place September 27 from 6-9 p.m. in the Kirkhof Center. The seminar, also part of the Civicize.Me program, will help participants understand local, state and federal institutions.
"This new series will educate participants about strategies and tactics to impact change at the local, regional and state level," said Baker-Boosamra.
