Sgt. Jeff Stoll at the Grand Valley Police Department has been selected for the assistant director/captain assignment on the Allendale Campus. He begins his new role May 20.

Emily Najera, visiting professor of photography, contributed photos to a The New York Times article, "Detroit Was Crumbling. Here's How It's Reviving." The photo essay article, published on April 30, explores the redevelopment and construction in Midtown Detroit.

Jeff Kelly Lowenstein, assistant professor of multimedia journalism, earned second place in the National Headliner Awards competition for his collaborative work with the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism Pennsylvania Media Group for an article, "Defying the Odds," an investigation into the infrastructure of the lottery industry in the U.S.

William Neal, emeritus professor of geology, was a co-author of articles, “How to Make Integrated Coastal Erosion Management a Reality,” published in Ocean & Coastal Management; and  “Newfoundland’s Sandy Beaches: A Glacial Legacy” and “Te Pito o Te Henua Shore (Rapa Nui or Easter Island): A Remote and Mysterious Place with Rare Beaches,” published via the Coastal Care website.

Kirkhof College of Nursing faculty members Nancy Schoofs and Sylvia Mupepi gave a presentation, “Study Abroad Program with Dynamics of Collaborative Research: A Case of Grand Valley State University, Michigan, USA, and Cape Coast University, Cape Coast, Ghana, West Africa,” at the Nursing Education Research Conference, Sigma Theta Tau International, in Washington D.C.

Dianne Slager, assistant professor of nursing, gave presentations, “Use of Electronic Clinical Tracking System for Documenting Competency Achievement in a DNP Program” and "Assessing Clinical Judgment Behaviors and Self-Reflection Using the Lasater Clinical Judgment Rubric," at the Nursing Education Research Conference, Sigma Theta Tau International, in Washington D.C.

Amy Manderscheid, assistant professor of nursing, was appointed abstract reviewer for the 2018 Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses National Conference.

Deborah Bambini, professor of nursing, and her scholarship team gave three presentations at the Nursing Education Research Conference in Washington, D.C.: "The Effect of Faculty Training and Personality Characteristics on High Stakes Assessment of Simulation Performance," "A Shared Mental Model for High-Stakes Simulation Evaluation in Nursing Education," and "How the StrengthsFinder Assessment Assists Faculty in Building Consensus to Achieve Consistency in Student Evaluation."

Renee Zettle-Sterling, professor of jewelry and metalsmithing, foundations and sculpture, was a co-author of a book, CAST: Art and Objects Made Using Humanity’s Most Transformational Process, which received the Eric Hoffer First Horizon Award, honoring superior work by debut authors. 

Alan Steinman, director of the Annis Water Resources Institute, gave a presentation, "Restoration Efforts in West Michigan Aquatic Ecosystems," at the Nanjing Institute of Geography and Limnology in China. He is a co-author of an article, "Effects of Light, Microorganisms, Farming Chemicals and Water Content on the Degradation of Microcystin-LR in Agricultural Soils," published in Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety.
