Faculty to be honored at annual awards convocation

Faculty members will be recognized for their scholarship, teaching, work in the community and years of service during the annual Faculty Awards Convocation on Thursday, February 1.

The event will begin at 4 p.m. in the DeVos Center, Loosemore Auditorium. John Constantelos, professor of political science, will give an address, "Internationalized!" He is the recipient of the Internationalization Award.

University Awards for Excellence will be presented to the following people.

• Judy Whipps, professor of liberal studies, Outstanding Advising and Student Services Award

• Elizabeth Storey, assistant professor of teaching and learning, Outstanding Community Service Award

• David Bair, professor of educational foundations, Outstanding University Service Award

• Patricia Clark, professor of writing, Distinguished Contribution in a Discipline Award

• Azfar Hussain, associate professor of liberal studies, University Outstanding Teacher Award

• Jeanine Beasley, professor of occupational science and therapy; Sheldon Kopperl, professor of biomedical sciences and liberal studies; and Neal Rogness, professor of statistics, Glenn A. Niemeyer Awards

The Center for Scholarly and Creative Excellence will present awards to the following people.

• Barbara Hoogenboom, professor of physical therapy, Distinguished Graduate Mentoring Award

• William Dickinson, professor of mathematics, and Merritt DeLano-Taylor, associate professor of biomedical sciences, Distinguished Undergraduate Mentoring Award          

• Erica Hamilton, assistant professor of literacy and technology; Kimberly McKee, assistant professor of liberal studies; and Christopher Shaffer, assistant professor of anthropology, Distinguished Early-Career Scholar Awards

The Pew Faculty Teaching and Learning Center will present awards to the following people.

• Chasity Bailey-Fakhoury, assistant professor of educational foundations, Burch, Jacobs and Moore Diversity Teaching Excellence Award

• Roger Allman, part-time instructor of communications, Pew Teaching Excellence Award for Part-time Faculty

• Rosemary Cleveland, senior affiliate of teaching and learning, and Andrew Korich, associate professor of chemistry, Pew Teaching with Technology Awards

• Ellen Adams, assistant professor of art history, Meijer Honors College; Shawn Bultsma, associate professor of educational leadership and counseling; Susan Cleghorn, associate professor of occupational science and therapy; Jacquelynn Doyon-Martin, associate professor of criminal justice; Dalila Kovacs, professor of chemistry; Christine Smith, professor of psychology; and Pamela Wells, professor of mathematics, Pew Teaching Excellence Awards

Faculty members with 25, 30, 35, 40 and 45 years of service to Grand Valley will be recognized.
