The student organization Voices of GVSU will host its first conference for young women November 17 at the DeVos Center, Loosemore Auditorium.

"Women Empowering Women" will run from noon-6 p.m. and feature keynote presentations from Grand Valley alumni and former members of Voices, including Shannon Cohen, Erin Williams, Whitney Washington and Alena Zachery-Ross. Authors who contributed to a book, "A Next Level Shift: Girl, Get Your Fight Back," will also give a presentation.

The conference is free, participants are asked to bring personal care items to help stock the shelves at Replenish, the student food pantry.

Cassonya Carter, senior academic advisor for Kirkhof College of Nursing and director of Voices, said the conference was planned by students to offer an outlet to "women of all ages to ignite their mind, body and soul, and empower each other."

RSVP for the conference online at gvsu.edu/s/0SQ.
