Campus mourns death of retiree

Ralph "Fred" Bleckley, who retired from Grand Valley in 1993, died July 25 at the age of 86.

Bleckley worked for Facilities Services in the mailroom from 1971-1993. Funeral services were held July 29. Memorial contributions are suggested to Audio Scripture Ministries or Hands and Nails, a Coopersville ministry that assists with home repairs and maintenance needs.

 

Sketches 

Kirkhof College of Nursing faculty members Evelyn Clingerman and Luanne Shaw gave a presentation, "Polarity Thinking: An Innovative Strategy to Advance Leadership Teams, Education, and Improve Practice," at the Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Research Congress in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. 

Libby MacQuillan, assistant professor of clinical dietetics, earned international Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator credentials and is the first registered dietitian nutritionist to earn the CHSE credential. 

Eric Kunnen, associate director of eLearning and emerging technologies, wrote an article, "Technology as a Catalyst in Shaping the Educational Experience," published in Education Technology Insights. Kunnen was elected president of the Educational Technology Organization of Michigan executive board.

Recreational therapy faculty members Dawn DeVries and Susan Sunden were co-authors of an article, "Bibliotherapy with Children who have a Sibling with a Disability," published in the Journal of Poetry Therapy

Allison Manville Metz, associate professor of theater, gave a keynote address, "I Feel So Relaxed: Mindfulness Strategies and Yoga Activities for Early Childhood," at the Early Childhood Educators' Conference held at SUNY Cortland.

Wil Rankinen, assistant professor and undergraduate program director for communication sciences and disorders, gave a presentation, “Words and Yooper Identity,” at the Peter White Public Library in Marquette.

Loren Rullman, vice provost for student affairs and dean of students, was an invited panelist for a session, "Is Your Campus Housing Embracing Gen Z?" at the Association of College and University Housing Officers International Conference in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
