GrandPR participates in CreatAthon
For the second consecutive year, members of GrandPR, Grand Valley’s student-run public relations firm, were selected to participate in a 24-hour marathon to develop communications campaigns for five local nonprofit organizations.
Members of GrandPR participated in the 24-hour “CreateAthon” March 15-16. The organization was one of only three student-run firms in the country selected to host a CreateAthon.
“Being selected to participate in CreateAthon is an amazing honor,” said Sabrina Antcliff, senior graphic design major and CEO of GrandPR. “It’s truly a privilege to be able to come together in this way, where our staff and the community benefit greatly from this experience. ”
The nonprofits that participated were the West Michigan Center for Art and Technology, Family Futures, Ele’s Place, Disability Advocates of Kent County, and the Grand Rapids Pride Center.
This year’s CreateAthon has additional significance as GrandPR celebrates 10 years since the student agency was founded. The organization planned 10 acts of service throughout the year.
Emily Gagnon said other acts of service included collecting feminine hygiene products for the organization Be a Rose, donating supplies and making a meal for GR HQ, packing sack suppers with Kids’ Food Basket, assisting with a Humane Society of West Michigan event, curating an archive with Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women, decorating for Samaritas Senior Living’s Valentine’s Day event, providing pro-bono work for the GVSU Athletics for Sawyer Day, and writing visitor blogs for Hello West Michigan. The organization will also participate in GVSU Community Outreach Week.
