Photos: Lakers take over Little Caesars Arena during Red Wings GVSU Night
The Grand Valley community turned Little Caesars Arena Laker blue by attending the first GVSU Night at the February 24 Red Wings game in Detroit.
More than 700 alumni, students, faculty, staff and members of their families, gathered to show off their Laker pride while supporting the Red Wings as the team battled the San Jose Sharks.
The Red Wings organization donated $5 from each ticket sale to the GVSU Scholarship Fund, a general fund dedicated to supporting students through scholarships. A total of $3,585 was raised, and the check was received by Diana Lawson, dean of the Seidman College of Business; Joshua Plona, ’11; and Louie the Laker.
During the game, a handful of Lakers participated in a round of “bubble hockey,” including Doug VanderJagt, ’92, Laura Schoenborn, ’99, Shaun Shira, ’04, Jessica Kane, ’16, Ryan Dividock, ’97, and Brian Hoekzema, a current student. Also, Cooper Maas, son of alumna Sarah Maas, ’04, received the special experience of riding a Zamboni during the game. Detroit Red Wings GVSU Night was coordinated by Alumni Relations.
