"Laker Strong." "You Can Do This!" "Knowledge is Power."

These are just some of the messages written on paper waves throughout the Mary Idema Pew Library on the Allendale Campus.

About 1,000 "waves of wishes" are displayed on the library windows, wishing students good luck during finals week.

Donors, alumni, faculty and staff members wrote words of encouragement on the waves to show support for students as they study for final exams.

Rachel Hull, donor relations stewardship manager in University Development, came up with the idea last fall.

"We've been collecting waves of wishes since homecoming," said Hull. "Donors and alumni invest in our students in so many ways and we wanted students to know the Grand Valley community is thinking about them this week, wishing them good luck with finals."

Staff members from University Development and Alumni Relations partnered with library staff members to display the waves.
