A lifelong learning initiative announced by President Philomena V. Mantella during her investiture address was deemed an "intriguing experiment" in a Forbes article about higher education opportunities for experienced workers.

The Jan. 13 story titled "College Programs for Encore Careers Are Bubbling Up" examines how colleges and universities are developing programs to help those with decades of work experience navigate a career change. The article includes the Laker Lifetime Learning Account as one initiative designed to meet that need.

The account offers money to alumni to continue their education throughout their career. It is set to start in the spring.

"The Laker Lifetime Learning Account will be available for Lakers to reduce costs and improve access to badges, certificates and advanced degrees at Grand Valley," Mantella said in announcing the resource.
