A Grand Valley staff member will present during a statewide, virtual summit on student voting.

The Michigan Student Voting summit will take place Friday, May 29 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The virtual event is sponsored by Campus Vote Project and the All-In Campus Democracy Challenge. GVSU hosted the summit in the spring of 2019 and is assisting with planning this year's event.

Melissa Baker-Boosamra, associate director of Student Life - Civic Engagement and Assessment, will serve as a panelist and present on the topic “Creating a Diverse Campus Coalition." Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist II and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson are also scheduled to present.

Participants are invited to come together for a day of civic learning and reflection, organizing and networking. The event is free and open to students and campus representatives from colleges and universities across Michigan.

Grand Valley's participation is also in support of the All In Campus Democracy Challenge's presidential commitment signed by President Philomena V. Mantella which states the university will work toward the goal of full student participation in the 2020 election.
