Incident Management Team update
A new website, www.gvsu.edu/lakerstogether, includes up-to-date information regarding Grand Valley's preparation for the Fall 2020 semester. It includes comprehensive information on topics including health and safety, university life, support for students and faculty, and information about a campuswide signage plan, "Lakers Together — Standing Apart."
In preparation for fall, classrooms are being redesigned for social distancing. Standard rooms will be converted for a capacity of 19 students instead of 48. Seats will be 6 feet apart and there will be a 6-foot divide between the instructor and the first row of students. Course offerings are being adjusted to take these new classroom capacities into account.
There will also be reduced capacity in walk-in computer labs. For example, a 35-seat lab will be reduced to 18 seats by removing nearly half of the workstations. The remaining workstations will be staggered to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet between seats. View examples here.
University leadership said, at this time, there are no plans to alter the academic calendar; fall classes begin August 31.
IMT members meet regularly to plan for any necessary actions surrounding COVID-19. The team makes recommendations to the Senior Leadership Team, using public health and CDC guidance.
The IMT is made up of representatives from various campus departments, including the Grand Valley Police Department, Public Health, Facilities Services, Housing and Residence Life, Office of the Provost, Human Resources, Academic Affairs, Student Affairs and University Communications. An expanded group of more than 35 people meets weekly.
