Music will ring out from the Beckering Family Carillon Tower on Grand Valley's Pew Grand Rapids Campus as a way to further honor critical workers who were already recognized by the blue illumination of the tower.

Starting May 15 and for the remaining Fridays in May at 7 p.m., retired Grand Valley carillonneur Julianne Vanden Wyngaard will play "America the Beautiful" on the tower's 48 bronze bells that were cast in France.

The effort is being done in collaboration with the City of Grand Rapids to show support for these essential workers. In addition, Grand Valley plans to extend the blue illumination of the tower until May 28, officials said. The lighting was installed by Creative Day Technologies and Odyssey Lighting.

The tribute includes a sign placed next to the carillon to offer words of gratitude.
