In a year unlike any other, new and returning Grand Valley students carried furniture, boxes and other personal items into living centers during move-in August 23-27.
More than 5,000 students moved onto the Allendale and Pew Grand Rapids campuses throughout several days in a process to maintain social distancing. President Philomena V. Mantella greeted students and their families as they moved into living centers across campus.
Transitions, Grand Valley's orientation program for new students, consisted of online orientation modules, a virtual meeting, and a small group session prior to the start of classes.
Four orientation programs held events in-person and virtually: Black Excellence, Laker Familia, Asian Student and Native American Maajtaadaa! orientations.
The newest class of students will be welcomed Friday, August 28, during Convocation, a celebration that marks the beginning of the academic year. The virtual ceremony will be live streamed at 11 a.m. from the Allendale Campus.
