Leaders at Grand Valley and in West Michigan are mourning the death of Robert "Bob" P. Bernecker, long-time GVSU supporter and member of the Grand Valley University Foundation Advisory Cabinet. Bernecker died on April 24.

Bernecker believed strongly in education and giving back to the community. He was a member of the Shaping Our Future campaign committee and supported Grand Valley’s Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies and the Mary Idema Pew Library Learning and Information Commons.

Bernecker served the GVU Foundation for the past 12 years, first as a director and most recently as a member of the advisory cabinet. Karen Loth, vice president for University Development and executive director of the GVU Foundation, said Bernecker’s loyal support will help students for generations to come.

“Over the years Bob gave generously to make our students' lives, our community and our foundation better," Loth said. "We will miss his loyal support and his friendship very much. Our hearts go out to Valerie and the Bernecker family.”
