The Grand Valley women’s basketball team fell one step shy of making the NCAA Division II national championship game.

Glenville State pulled away in the second half, beating the Lakers, 77-53, in a Division II national semifinal game on March 23.

The game featured the nation's No. 1 scoring in Glenville State facing the nation's No. 1 scoring defense in Grand Valley.

Grand Valley held a 29-27 halftime lead over the Pioneers, but their high-scoring offense came to life in the second half.

Glenville State opened an eight-point lead by the end of the third quarter and a 14-5 run to start the fourth quarter put the game out of reach for the Lakers.

Ellie Droste led Grand Valley (31-3) in scoring with 14 points while Emily Spitzley added 13 points.
