No. 1 Grand Valley is back at Lubbers Stadium for its Homecoming game at 3 p.m. on October 22 against Northern Michigan.

Grand Valley enters Saturday’s game following one of the biggest wins in the program’s history, beating defending Division II national champion and top-ranked Ferris State, 22-21, in the annual Anchor-Bone Classic in Big Rapids.

“The victory puts us in position to accomplish things, but it doesn’t accomplish a lot in regards to a GLIAC Championship and post-season play,” said head football coach Matt Mitchell. “We have a lot of things we want to do. We all very badly want to strive for a GLIAC Championship.”

Junior linebacker Abe Swanson was named the GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance against the Bulldogs. Swanson recorded seven tackles, 1.5 tackles for a loss and recovered a fumble with just over three minutes remaining.

Northern Michigan (3-4) may have lost its last two games, but Mitchell said that the Lakers will need to be prepared for a determined effort from the Wildcats.

“Northern Michigan is going to be extremely physical,” said Mitchell. “They are built on that grittiness that comes from the Upper Peninsula. They really like to run the ball and play really well up front on their defense.”

Saturday's game will be live streamed via FloSports, and is available online or via iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire and Chromcast. Lakers fans can register for a subscription at the GLIAC’s home page on FloSports

The game will also be broadcast locally on WXSP-TV (Channel 15 over-the-air broadcast in the Grand Rapids area).

Tune in to 96.9 WLAV-FM for the radio broadcast of the game. Pre-game coverage begins at 1:30 p.m.
