Lakers win NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship, advance to Elite Eight

The Grand Valley women's basketball team beat Walsh, 64-61, to earn a spot in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division II Tournament.

The Grand Valley women's basketball team won the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championship, beating Walsh, 64-61, on March 14 in Ashland, Ohio.

The win advances the Lakers to the Elite Eight for the fourth time in the program's history.

Guard Ellie Droste led all scorers with 19 points. Guard Emily Spitzley added 10 points and forward Courtney Sharland grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds.

Grand Valley outscored Walsh, 20-10, over the game's final five minutes to pull away and seal the victory.

Droste played a major factor in the Lakers' scoring stretch to close the game, scoring nine of the Lakers' final 11 points.

Next stop for the Lakers is the Elite Eight of the NCAA Division II Tournament in Birmingham, Alabama.
