Tee times at The Meadows at Grand Valley State University may be a little harder to reserve this season after the golf course was ranked among the nation’s top university courses.

GolfLink ranks The Meadows as the No. 6 college golf course in the nation, the only course belonging to a Division II school to make the list.

“We are ecstatic to see the Meadows on this list and deservingly so,” said men’s head golf coach Gary Bissell. “The Meadows has all the characteristics desired in a championship course, and we are proud to call it home."

GolfLink isn’t the only website to rank The Meadows so highly. NBC’s GolfPass also had The Meadows at No. 6 on its best college courses in the nation list.

Since 1996, The Meadows has hosted nine NCAA Division II National Championships — six women’s national meets (1996, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2015) and three men’s national meets (2001, 2007, 2014). Between The Meadows and its practice facility, women’s head golf coach Rebecca Mailloux said student athletes have a top-flight complex to improve their skills.

“The convenience of having a championship golf course right here on our campus allows our athletes to have a better balance as a student athlete and also take their golf games to the next level,” said Mailloux.

UGA Golf Course at the University of Georgia tops GolfLink’s list, followed by University Ridge at the University of Wisconsin, the Pfau Course at Indiana University, the Yale Golf Course and the Jimmie Austin Golf Club at the University of Oklahoma.

Closing out the top-10 behind The Meadows is the Pete Dye River Course at Virginia Tech, the Warren Golf Course at the University of Notre Dame, Birdwood Golf Course at the University of Virginia and the Birck Boilermaker Golf Course at Purdue University.

The University of Michigan Golf Course ranks at No. 24 and Michigan State’s Forest Akers West comes in at No. 25 on GolfLink’s list.

“The Meadows is a championship venue based on the idea that it rewards good shots, but severely penalizes errant shots,” said Bissell. “We love hosting here due to its ability to separate a leaderboard and produce a true champion. You will not find greens that roll much better than the Meadows especially when it comes time to host an event.”
