Best Employer ranking helps with recruitment, retention, leaders say

Grand Valley has been ranked as one of the country's best employers for 2023, according to Forbes.

The publication's list of America's Best Employers was released February 15. Grand Valley was ranked among the Best Midsize Employers.

President Philomena V. Mantella said the recognition emphasizes the university's positive environment for faculty and staff members.

"Our employees come to work every day ready to support our students' passion, purpose and professional pursuit," Mantella said. "We are grateful for their commitment, because together we create a community of energy and action like no other."

Mychal Coleman, associate vice president for Human Resources, said the ranking aids in employee recruitment and retention.

"This distinction establishes GVSU’s brand as an 'employer of choice,'" Coleman said. "Prospective applicants tend to have a higher preference toward organizations holding this distinction. Also the ranking tends to correlate with increases in employee engagement and strengthens retention as it confirms the culture."

Forbes and Statista selected America’s Best Employers 2023 through an independent survey of 45,000 employees working for companies with more than 1,000 employees. Employee evaluations also included other employers in their respective industries that stood out either positively or negatively.
