For the 10th consecutive year, Grand Valley was recognized as one of the top veteran-friendly schools in Michigan by the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency.

Among 62 schools that were recognized with gold, silver or bronze statuses, GVSU received gold status by the MVAA, affirming the university’s commitment to excellence in serving the veteran community.

“Grand Valley is committed to helping service members and their families successfully transition from serving in the military to earning a degree and beyond,” said President Philomena V. Mantella. “We are honored to receive gold status from the MVAA and have those efforts recognized.”

Programs such as Veterans Advance, The GVSU Veteran Promise , Michigan Veteran Entrepreneurship-Lab , Peter Secchia Military and Veterans Program and the LEADS for Vets accelerated bachelor’s program are among the assistance and resources GVSU offers to its veteran students.

In April, the Peter Secchia Military and Veterans Resource Center reinstated the Student Veteran Graduation Celebration.

Veterans Resource Center Director Shane Scherer said he believes the gold status“is essential in recognizing and honoring the hard work, dedication and achievements of Grand Valley’s student veteran community.”

Scherer said the resource center takes great pride in contributing to GVSU’s gold status.

“I believe being recognized by MVAA reinforces that Grand Valley is creating a welcoming environment where veterans can thrive academically, professionally and personally, while honoring their unique experiences and contributions,” he said.
