For the third time in four games, No. 2 Grand Valley faces off against a Top-25 opponent.
In the first matchup ever between the teams, the Lakers and No. 20 West Florida meet at Lubbers Stadium on September 28. Kickoff is 3 p.m.
Last week, Grand Valley (3-0) held off Wisconsin-La Crosse, 20-13, to remain undefeated on the season. The Lakers were without starting quarterback Avery Moore, who was out of the game due to an injury, and relied on a trio of quarterbacks — Ike Udengwu, Vinny Meschi and Alex Thole — to lead the team to the win.
The Lakers’ defense rose to the challenge, holding the Eagles to 35 rushing yards. Wisconsin-La Crosse outgained Grand Valley in passing yardage, but the Lakers sacked Eagles quarterback Zach Weir five times.
“Wisconsin-La Crosse is a tough team,” head coach Scott Wooster said. “They know how to win. They know how to get into those fourth-quarter battles. They know how to grind it out, and that’s exactly what they did. They make you earn absolutely everything and a tremendous amount of credit goes to them.”
